I'm on a Shakespeare kick at the moment, mainly because I'm doing some research for one of my PhD stories. Anyway, I got to wondering about which is my favourite Shakespearean romance. And as the wonderful Anonymous has given me paid journal time, I was inspired to inflict another Poll on you all :)

It is an awful choice, isn't it? There are so many wonderful bits in so many of the plays, damn him. :)

Um, I pick [A Midsummer Night's Dream]. I always think A Midsummer Night's Dream is a quite beautiful. (I even love it's title. How lovely!)

BTW, we(you knew that I'm not from English culture) don't learn Shakespeare at high school - not even College, if you don't major in English literature or something like that. We learn ancient Asian literature mostly. And I fond of ancient China poems.
Please understand that my knowledge of Shakespeare is very limited, and forgive me to say this - I read Hamlet when I was teenager and thought the story was bizarre. Maybe I was too young, but I still don't understand if there are real love between Ophelia/Hamlet.
Maybe It's just because my lack of knowledge about Shakespeare, or about life itself. Hmmm.

Oh, I didn't know that. American culture doesn't study Shakespeare... Hmm.
And thanks for your opinion about Ophelia/Hamlet thing. Because I'm wondering that there are love so visible and I was blind to see that. :)

Makes me feel experienced, I've seen them all. If you get a talented Orlando, he can really make you believe in love. Orsino, not so much. Beatrice & Benedick sparkle, and are enormously fun to watch. If there was more Katherine/King Henry, it would be good, I always giggle at "bilbow". Never did believe in Katherine/Petrucio...

I know what you mean. There is something so satisfying about seeing most of them on stage, and it's hard to get a sense of that aspect of it when reading it flat on the page. In fact, that's one of the main problems I have with reading plays, generally speaking. I find it hard to fill in the gaps in my head. Shakespeare is a bit easier than some modern playwrights, because his language is so evocative.

I've seen nearly all of the plays too, and they're magic when done well. Even Taming of the Shrew is very watchable, despite the problematic ending.
