I submitted to the Escapade vidshow again this year, which is only my second time taking part in a formal vidshow. I'm stupidly excited, especially given that I'm not even there

If you are not going, I don't know whether I'd say submitting a vid is 'fun'. The biggest fun of VVC really is to get to meet people and to see the life reactions to the vids. I've done both, and if you have a vid showing and are not there it's a bit anti-climactic. The only thing with VVC is that there is the vid discussion the next day, and I think some people don't like that. It doens't really bother me much - firstly, there are more positive than negative comments, and frankly, some of the comments are rather random, subjective or just plain wrong (somebody commented on my vid last year that they were disappointed that I cut the most important part of the story, or some such nonesens, even though I'd used literally every clip and scene there was :P), but I just handwave those...
But you really should consider going in person (with or without premiere), that's were the real fun is to be had!
Thanks for your take on it -- that's pretty much how I was picturing it. I like vid discussion, so it's a sales point for me. :)
I really like the idea of attending, but it's at a bad time of year, and so expensive. I live in Australia, so I couldn't do it much cheaper than $3,500 (it would probably cost more).
Submitting without attending was something I really enjoyed the Escapade show last year -- I got to have several really good conversations with people online afterwards, both about my vid, and their vids.
Man, I DO KNOW that you are in Australia, but for some reason I keep forgetting. You totally need togehter with boppy and ash48 and Mr Anderson and get a on that AusVIdCon thing pronto!
Also, you can consider submitting a premiere for VidUKon this year, the dead line is end of March, though. Or you could vid a premiere for one of the vid shows, I'm still looking for vids showcasing European source & music (UK definition of Europe, e.g. mainland only) and I think isagel is looking for vids looking at faith from a non-wester/non-chrisitian perspective.
Australia is a strange alien place that slips many people's minds. :)
And yes, I'm seriously thinking about an Aussie vidcon; I'm hoping I have the energy to do a con again at some point, and that would be my project of choice.
As for VidUKon... probably can't make the end of March -- semester starts in a week, and we have Swancon over Easter, and I have a lecture on remix to write (\o/) for early April. That doesn't leave a lot of weekends free between now and then.
I do like the idea of VidUKon, though. I've been looking at the announcements with a fair bit of envy. I'll have a think and see if I get inspired with an idea that doesn't need a lot of sources or effects.
I've never been to Australia, so I could be tempted to consider attending a con and then use it as an excuse to do some sight-seeing as well. And since you're weather is anti-cyclic to the Northern hemisphere (I think?!?), it even would work out quite well, timing wise...
Yes, I know it's getting tight for the VidUKon dead line, I just thought I mention it on the off chance you'd not heard of it. I'm still looking for a song for my premiere, and I'm not sure I'll actually get it done in time. My vidding is pretty much limited to weekends, but unfortunately not the ONLY thing - I need more and longer weekends!

Obviously the solution is an Aussie vidding con!

Longer weekends would solve so many problems. :)
