New Soap: The Pirate Bay

Have you all been following the Pirate Bay case? It's completely fascinating! I didn't follow the Napster trial very closely back in the day, but from what I remember there are some key differences between then and now. It's an amazing situation. And in this day and age, you'd think people would have enough sense not to risk their case by doing anything shonky like paying the cop - the net is full of people who can and will track down any paper trail.

The DDo$ attack is genius, though I can't help but feel sorry for the law firm, all they did was take a case.

I don't know what the answer is, but at some point the film and music industries will have to accept that this isn't it.

These are scary times for the internet. I haven't been following the case closely, we're too busy here to deal with the French gvt's attempt to curtail illegal downloads: they just passed a bill where they can basically force you to install spyware on your computer to check what you're downloading, and if you're found guilty of pirating, they can cut your internet for 2 months to a year. (it's the HADOPI law). Good (creative!) times ahead!
