One of my wish-list strategies for becoming well read is to read at least one book from every Nobel Laureate. There are 104 authors on this list below. How many do you recognise? And how many of their books have you read?
Another of my strategies is to note when social commentors say that a certain author was influential - say 'Collette' who is mentioned in the historical commentary 'They changed the World'. Then I read some of their work and get to see the social context of their life and thoughts and the contribution that they made to other people through their writing.
I would rate myself as moderately well read compared to the general public, but less well read than many of the writers here. Even so, I think I have a good plan to become better read over time. I would rather have substance than popularity as a recommendation.
