Okay, I've always been really curious about the backstory to "Thrill Ride,"--either what made Rodney decide to go for it (and was he planning it in advance, or did the sex scene coming up just make him think of it?) or how John thought of Rodney before that. I mean, he was surprised and amused when Rodney made his move, but did he sense it coming? Did he sense there was something between them? How often did he think about making a move himself?
I think I'd rather have John's than Rodney's, but either would totally make my day.
Feel free to ignore this, if these questions are to X rated. But I have this newly-together-and-what-now? version of John and Rodney in my head and I'd love to see your take on it :-)
In your personal canon, how was their sex when they got together? (Did they have previous experience with gay sex? Just John? Just Rodney? How do their expectations influence their sex life? Did they feel comfortable with what they did? How did they get to "real" fucking? Do they switch? Is one of both more relaxed about it?)
Porn is never a bad suggestion :) I'll keep it in mind. But actually, I've already written a couple of takes on this (I'm not sure if you've read them?):
"Oranges and lemons", say the bells of St. Clement's "You owe me five farthings", say the bells of St. Martin's "When will you pay me?" say the bells of Old Bailey "When I grow rich", say the bells of Shoreditch "When will that be?" say the bells of Stepney "I do not know", says the great bell of Bow Here comes a candle to light you to bed And here comes a chopper to chop off your head! Chip chop chip chop - The last man's dead.
I know that song! I used to play jump-rope to it as a kid. I can see how it's a perfect prompt for Rodney. Did you have a specific question to go with it?
But what was going through my head was something like. Five ways this song and SGA intersected?
The obvious and not so obvious reactions to the first line, (could include rodney singing it or playing it and getting teased about it, "I do know the difference between a song and the actual _fruit_, Do you think I'm crazy? No, wait, don't answer that."
D. Hewlett lived in England, did Rodney? did he hear it there sometime?
John and Rodney in 1984
Do with it what you will, I just had it come knocking.
