How to Post Del.icio.us Links to LJ

Jul 08, 2007 01:24

A couple of people have been asking how I got the robot to pull links from my del.icio.us feed and turn them into LJ posts.

It was astoundingly easy, thanks to wistfuljane, who has written the clearest and most user-friendly set of instructions it's ever been my pleasure to follow: [How-To] Delicious GlueI'm not even going to try and summarise. But before ( Read more... )

Re: privacy setting del.icio.us doesn't include any links marked as "don't share" out in the dialy blog posts.

As for separate posts, creating different .php scripts (lj-songvids.php, lj-sga.php) should be sufficient. You don't need to have separate xmlrpc.inc files.

I'm sorry for spamming, but if I remember correctly, the bot would pick any links within the last 24 hours regardless of whether it has been harvested already or not. I have no idea how you would work around that except manually - although, I guess you could try "fandomname+fiction"...I don't think it would work though.

bibliotech just left a comment saying, "You know, mine did one thing odd...I changed the taglist on lj.php to just 'fanfic', meaning I wanted it to pick up just things from my del.icio.us tagged with 'fanfic'. Instead, it posted everything I'd tagged that day, and tagged my livejournal entry with 'fanfic'. Was that how it's meant to work in the first place?"

I don't suppose you can shed any light? You have been so helpy so far, I've rather started to think of you as the oracle :)

That is weird. I have no idea what happened. I just told bibliotech to check her taglist again.

But back to the privacy setting, I change the setting after the 24 hours mark, del.icio.us should not harvest the link as that link is past the harvesting time frame, kind of thing. It's the same with any link. Like, sometimes LJ will refuse to let your daily blog post to go through either because the server is down or suffering some troubles. The next time that del.icio.us try to harvest links (and if LJ has recovered), it won't collect any links from the previous day (past the 24 hours mark), only those bookmarked within the 24 hours mark.

And wow, that's a long explanation. I hope it makes sense?

I also found that setting the time for the daily blog post to the hour mark (i.e. 14, 15, 16) works better that half an hour mark or whatever. A pain when you're testing or if you have multiple posts, but yea...set it hours from when you plan to post to your rec community.

And having read the comments in your latest rec_room post, never mind what I said. I'm going back away from the internet before I create and add more confusions to the whole Delicious Glue situation.

I'm sorry for saying that the multiple separate posts would work and then nixing the plan.

No, no, no! You are awesome. See, this is exactly why I said we should share info. One person can't be expected to try everything, but pooling resources makes problems become clear.

You have made this whole process so easy! Really. I never would have attempted the bot without your help, and it's working really well for me. Thank you!

I'm glad that my comments are contributing to the overall discussion then, instead y'know of making a mess of them. *tentative Paul Gross arms*

Oh boy, to quote what I added to my guide: I read the purpose of the taglist wrong and it does not refer to tag(s) that you want del.icio.us to compile, but rather what you want your daily blog post to be tagged in LJ. I apologize for the mix up so late in the game. There is no way to limit del.icio.us from generating specific links except to privatize the links.
