Happy Endings?

May 04, 2005 15:23

I've been thinking a lot about my Works in Progress lately, and have come to several conclusion about why I tend to write series that stop one episode short of the conclusion.

Happy endings rant )

Write what you want to write. If that's short bits, we will explore the ideas with you (oh god, you do realise you will start giving me ideas?) just as we happily took the first step of a grand AU beside you.

*points up* And I totally agree that diffusing the stress that has been hindering your writing is the most important thing.

You know, that's an absolutely lovely thing to say. It's made me all warm and gushy inside. My favourite part of fanfic is the way it's communal and we all share ideas and inspiration. And I'm all excited now, because it hadn't really occurred to me that my scenes might inspire *other people*! But that's a really good thought, and it makes me happy.

I feel so good about this decision. Lighter. I've been smiling for *days*.

Absolutely. It's one of the main things that's kept me in fandom for so long.

And I don't think I can read anything without being inspired on one level, it's just that some things inspire me enough to actually open a document and start working on something of my own. And often your discussions of writing do that, so I'll be interested to see my (and other people's) responses to your short pieces.

I love love love love vingettes. They flex different writing muscles for me - often muscles that desperately NEED to be flexed. They're also a joy to read.

Looking forward to it.

But I don't think I'm going to post things as works in progress any more. They'll just be what they are, and if I feel like writing some more later, I will, but then again, I might not. I think that's brilliant, and I'm going to emulate you. I was going through my Afflection file the other day, and found some stuff that could definitely be posted as vignettes. I'd been holding off, because I know there is more to add, and then I thought about it, and I actually thought, 'Meh. If it comes, it comes.'

Glad to see you're working towards happy again, baby.

I'm so glad you approve, because I was thinking about it, and I realized there isn't a huge world of difference between 'emulate' and 'shamelessly copy'. ;-)

I'm working on your beta right now, honey. I'm assuming this is for the damonaffleck AU challenge?

*nuzzles*

See, I can live in the delusion now that I am a Trendsetter! ;)

I'm working on your beta right now

Thank you!

Yep, the story is for the AU challenge. There will be a reward for you at some point soon, too, sweetheart.

*shamelessly teases with hints of mystery Afflection fic*

I wrote a long reply to this and bloody LJ ate it! Basically I said, yes, that's the feeling I want to evoke. It's hard. O'Brien got off lightly by not having to resolve his series. ;) And I'll have to have a look at M&C because you're not the first person to rave to me about it.

But with a lot more wit and panache.

Clearly you will have to write a series so long that it is still incomplete at your death. That way tehre is no need to finish it.
