They are showing a two-part TV film about the sinking of the Wilhelm Gustloff (sank on January 30, 1945) today and tomorrow. When we saw the add for this today, my mom frowned and looked at me saying she thought she had already seen this film about a "terrible sinking with so many people on board" and after thinking for a moment it occured to me that she was talking about Titanic. It just showed me again, how little the people in my country allow themselves to think about the war sometimes. I remember in 12th grade (I was 17 or 18) I asked our history teacher why we never talked about the resistance during WWII and he just looked down at me and told me that there had been too little resistance to be worth mentioning. If it hadn't been for the religious education I would have grown up in the believe that there had really been no one trying to do anything back then.
