the power of truth.

One of the first things children learn to do is lie.

Remember how you felt when you were confronted with something and you lied? Why? Most likely because you were afraid of the consequences.

As adults, we lie to ourselves. We escape from what we know to be true. We cover it up or indulge with behavior and activites in our life. Or, we purposely wish to remain ignorant, not wanting to know details, so we can continue in our perceived bliss.

Yet, the Bible says the truth has the power to set us free.

Did you ever get your lie uncovered? I've seen it with young and old, their conscience got to be so burdensome, and when truth was revealed, even though it was painful, they were better off for it in the end.

Think about an old, rusty padlock on a door that opens to something promised. You try key after key, using different ways to unlock the door.

Finally, you try the last key - representing truth.

The lock has felt some pressure with all the wrong keys. If it was alive, it winced with yet another key being poked inside. But when the key of truth turns and the lock is released, the pressure is released.

The truth is uncomforable. But it has the power to set you free.

I've had times in my life when I had to face truth. Initially, it hurt.

But then something good happens. A cleansing renewal washes over you.

Freedom.
