Shuichi looked up towards the door almost automatically when he heard a knock. He knew who was behind the door, but he kept his eyes glued to the door before turning back to the homework he was working on. The knock sounded again, this time though a hurried Kiyokata ran towards the door. "Why couldn't you answer it? You were right there." He said in a hushed voice as he unlocked the door before opening it to reveal an older Japanese man clearly in his fifties. A much younger woman in her late twenties or early thirties stood next to him. The couple didn't wait to be invited in. Instead the pushed pass Kiyokata, the woman with her arm looped through the man's extended arm.
They moved immediately towards the living quarters as Kiyokata shut the door securely, checking twice to see if he had locked it. Shuichi didn't look up at the guests and instead kept working on his work. "How was school?" The woman asked, clearly nervous and hesitant on her words. The man glanced around the room suspiciously in a agitated manner.
"Just fine, mother," Shuichi replied in a none too happy voice. His mom looked unsurely at Kiyokata. "Why don't we go get some tea, Ichigo-dono," Kiyokata interrupted, looking at Shuichi's mother to see if she understood. Sure enough, she obediently stood and followed him into the kitchen.
"Shuichi," the man said. The name sounded almost foreign on his tongue. "What do you have come up with for the report?"
Of course. The report. Why else would they be here? "Report? Well I have found a few things about a certain Sawada child-"
"Sawada!" Shuichi's father snarled. "So he does attend that school..."
"Yes, he does," was Shuichi's reply. He then got up from his spot and headed towards his room only to shortly return with a notebook. "Here's all the information I have found on Sawada as of now."
His father eagerly snatched the notebook from Shuichi's hands and flipped through the pages, his eyes scanning over the words. "Excellent work, Shuichi. You've done well, so far." The corners of Shuichi's lips began to form that of a menacing smile from his father's compliment.
"I have a trip coming up, too, Father. Tomorrow in fact. A couple days in the woods I believe they said," Shuichi added. "Perfect chance for the Sawada boy to -how should I put this- fall, maybe, into the waters and *accidentally* drown?"
His father smiled at his son. "It seems they have raised you well, young Wolf. Don't get yourself in any trouble while you are gone, Shuichi. I don't want a problem for the others caused by my own son. It would be disgraceful." Shuichi's smile had faded. Just the way his father said disgraceful sent chills down his back. Him? Disgraceful? Never. Not when he was considered important in the Yakuza. Not when he was so close to having his name known world wide.
"Of course not, Father. Maybe just rough him up a bit. You know, kick the vermin around a bit to show who really is in charge."
"Good thinking, Shuichi. You're earning the right to the name you carry. An Ichigo must earn the rights of using such a high status name like that. Now, I would enjoy staying longer to discuss more of your school, but your mother and I only dropped by on a business trip so we really should be going." He stood up, still holding the notebook. "I will be keeping this for now too. If you get any more information, you can, uh, give it to Kiyokata, alright?"
As if in perfect timing, Shuichi's mother walked back into the room. "Be careful on that trip of yours that Kiyo was telling me about," she spoke to Shuichi, kissing him lightly on the forehead. His father was at the door, but didn't turn to look at his son as he said, "You may use any of my money if need be on that, uh, trip." And with that, both were gone.
Kiyokata patted Shuichi on the shoulder before returning to the kitchen. Shuichi was too distracted to go back to his homework, so instead he passed off time by thinking of all things possible that could end up happening to Sawada. Unintentionally of course. He chuckled to himself, his eyes narrowing into a slant, and his wicked smile returning to his face. He couldn't wait for tomorrow now.
