I was supposed to be in classes this morning, but my manager told me yesterday that there was an important meeting at work at 9:30, and I had to be there

Me too! Stuff happens though. I'll figure something out. It's just an annoying time having just started uni again... It's early enough that I could still go full time, but there are at least two subjects I really wanted to do (whic are directly related to my thesis project too) that simply aren't running this year, so if I do honours full time I can't do them at all. So I need to find someone willing to take me on working Mondays and Thursdays (or maybe up to 3ish days a week if they're willing to take it in bits and pieces throughout). *sighs*
Btw, that book I borrowed off you was rather awesome. Much to think about, andmuch I need to find out the Australian details of rather than the American ones. My brother got interested in it too and is now planning on reading it, but he said he'd get hold of it on his own rather than asking to borrow your copy. Just thought you'd like to know. I'll give it back to you next time we're at Amelia's? I'm afraid it's a little more worn than it was though...
Mostly experienced ones though, sadly. At least that was what I found last time I looked - I would love to break into the games industry.
Before I got the job at Catapult, I did get an interview with a company producing a game in a series I've already played and liked a lot, that would've been mostly working from home, using Python, for quite good money. In other words, nearly my dream job. At the time they turned me down in favour of someone who actually knew Python. Since I'm now quite advanced with Python, I'm planning on digging up some contact information and seeing if they've got anything. Long shot, but...
When I was job-hunting a year ago, there were literally hundreds of programmer/software developer jobs in Melbourne advertised on MyCareer. Not all of them sounded interesting, and not all of them were jobs that I had the required experience for - but even ruling out the unsuitable ones, there were at least 5-10 jobs at any one time that I was considering applying for. The part-time bit might be more of a problem, but hopefully you'll find something. Good luck!
Yes, I was using MyCareer too, I think. Lots and lots of stuff, most of which I wasn't suitable for or didn't want (for location or similar reasons). But it gave me plenty to trawl through, at least! *sigh* Back to that.
If I can't find anything part time I may have to look for hull time work and drop out of uni. From memory I don't think Centrelink will pay me to study part time and look for part time work, only to study full time OR look for full time work (meaning if I'm on Centrelink and I get offered a full time job and turn it down, the crap hits the fan). I'll have ot look into what the regs are these days. Centrelink kinda sucks, but no severance package to live on while I find a job AND no Centrelink support puts a severe limit on how long I can take to find something...
Apparently this is the way things are sometimes done, as a security thing. Don't give people a chance to steal any confidential documents on the way out.
It would have been very weird for my manager actually. He knew this was coming for a day (but not more I think), but wasn't allowed to tell anyone. Yesterday was my first day back after a holiday in Perth, so my manager had to come up with a job to give me, knowing full well that I wasn't going to be doing it because the office was closing and one day isn't enough to finish anything.
