According to a government think-tank the main reason behind the one million French children ‘in poverty’ are parents that have no jobs. They say that many parents leave their jobs because they can not afford health care. Poverty is also prominent within immigrants due to the fact that they have a hard time sometimes integrating into society. Also in a study conducted by the Council of Jobs, Income and Social Cohesion, poor children are more likely to come from single-parent households or those with four or more children. They say current childcare levels are not high enough to support the growing child birth rate. They believe that the fight for poverty is a hard one and that society should come together to help end it.

Throughout the movie, Les Miserables, poverty seems to be an insuperable problem. Out protagonist within the story Jean Valjean happens to overcome poverty with help from the Bishop and the use of his common sense. Others such as the Thénardiers and Fantine had to resort to much more drastic measures. The Thénardiers tried to cheat everyone else out of money and Fantine had to resort to prostitution. This article talks about hoe so many poverty stricken people are within a vivious cycle that seems to be neverending. In Cosette’s case this was almost true but due to Jean Valjean getting Cosette out of a poverty her time in the poverty cycle was done.
