I think alot of people happily ignore Prince Charles. But the pro-organic farming movement is a massive waste of resources by misinformed people. Yes some of the food tastes better but when you pay 5 times the price that can be for reasons completely unrelated to the fact it was farmed in a happy clappy way (which as you've stated before isn't that green or organic when you look at the arbitrary rules laid down by the soil association ( ... )

That's a fair point. But I think the Zambia case shows that even if you fixed the transport issue there'd still be a problem if people turn down the food because they think it's dangerous.

Big bugbear I really have with organic food is that they've cornered the market on the ethical treatment of animals too. If I want to spend extra money on happy beef or whatever, I'm also forced to spend the money on hippy beef. But I can't blame them for that, just the fact that happy but not hippy is a very niche market.

People will always be afraid of what they don't understand. GM does worry me for that very reason*, however it would be nieve to think that method of using radiation to produce new strains was safer. A little knowledge can be worse than none.

*note: I understand what GM is and work with it everyday, however there are concerns in my head I don't have the answer for.
