The Joys of Pet Ownership

Poor Moggie's just gotten home from the vet. Our local vet is running free geriatric (animals over eight-years-old; Mog and Merlin turned nine two months ago) check-ups this month, so as Mog was due a check-up (Merlin's fine until next May), we took advantage of it.

Other than being a small cat (3kgs; Merlin at her heaviest is 2.2kgs; Toby is 5-6kgs >_<), the vet said she's healthy for a nine-year-old. Only thing she needs done is a good teeth cleaning (one or two may need removed as well), so she's booked in next week for that. As the vet said, no matter what you do, at some stage their teeth will need a little bit of help. Also, as she'll be put under, she'll need to have a kidney and liver check first to make sure she'll be grand under the anesthetic, but that means that we'll be able to make sure she is good and healthy in those terms as well.

She's currently sitting next to me, being really clingy. I can hear her purring from here. She was not impressed with the trip up (she's not used to the carrier as she rarely has to go in it), but at least she was quiet and didn't move around; Merlin gets really loud and a bit distressed sometimes in the carrier. Mog was also really shy with the vet; she just sat down with her tail between her leg the whole time. Well, until she noticed the cat clock with the swinging tail; then she just sat staring at that as the vet checked her. So different from my normally whinny, do-anything-for-cuddles Mog.

So fingers crossed next week goes grand and that'll be Mog for another year. She's never been sick, so hopefully once her teeth are perfect, she'll be grand for years to come. Still runs around like a maniac, and is the boss of the kitties.

More later. Eyes have gone foggy >_<;
