My boxed set of The Man from U.N.C.L.E. finally arrived a week ago. Yes, the big one, in the attaché case, all four seasons on 41 discs.

I loved this series, too. But when I recently watched the 'films' (which are, I think, actually compiled from episodes), my overwhelming impression was of looking into some strange alternative universe where sleaze was so captivating everyone was totally transfixed by Napoleon Solo (and didn't notice that the most beautiful man in the world was standing beside to him). It made no sense...

I always feel a little sorry for Napoleon. It was supposed to be his show, and then the little Russian snuck in the back way, and did everything much better than him. ;)

I suppose it's a reflection of things being different back in the sixties. Geeks being cool wasn't really acknowledged then, and Illya's popularity seemed to take everybody by surprise. It took a while for the writing to catch up. Mind you, then he had Janet Leigh trying to "love him to death", so maybe he'd have preferred to stay unnoticed!

I am not a big fan of The Hustle and always thought Robert Vaughn looked a little bit uncomfortable. Got to admire his work ethic and stepping outside comfort zone in Coronation Street.
He has always been a reliable actor and as I noted from wikipedia a year or so ago, all round nice guy with a good attitude to life

The Man from UNCLE is still one of my favorite series. I'm so glad they put it out on DVD.

I'm quite surprised - considering that 7MATE is currently showing B&W episodes of Wagon Train and NBN are showing Avengers - that none of the local digital channels are showing this!
