BILLY CORGAN, former frontman with SMASHING PUMPKINS and ZWAN, has revealed details about his forthcoming solo album, which he describes as "loud and beautiful and poetic and dumb".

The guitarist disbanded Smashing Pumpkins in 2000 and formed Zwan a year later. In 2003 the band released their debut album, 'Mary Star Of The Sea' but split last September.

In a statement on his official website, billycorgan.com, Corgan said: "I am excited to work on this music, because for the first time in my life it will be my tunes with no compromises to anyone or anything. It's gonna be loud and beautiful and poetic and dumb. Just the way I like it."

"We started a few days ago (the 15th) to get it together for my first solo album," he added. "Some would argue that it's not my first, and I wouldn't argue with you there."

Corgan also hinted that, though the record with be a solo album, it may feature a couple of collaborations, saying: "I am starting over from such a fresh perspective that there is nothing to rely on but my good name. I am being honest when I say I am ready for that and love the challenge and relish the mustard."

He added: "So I come in with no songs but maybe one or 2, no lyrics, no band (but a few santa's helpers lined up) and no dairy."

Corgan is also set to release a book of his poetry at the end of this month.

As previously reported on NME.COM, he premiered some material from the forthcoming book at a multimedia performance in Chicago last September.

The singer was opening the Poetry Center of Chicago's 31st Annual Reading Series at the Art Institute of Chicago's Rubloff Auditorium.
