I spent Mother's day with my mom and a lot of her cousins (I guess they're my relatives too). My mom was in the Bay Area attending a wedding of her first cousin. Some grand event which I bowed out of because it just meant a lot of show boating, people flashing jewelry, etc. This was supposed to be the wedding of the year for the clan. Steak and Lobster dinner, country club location, blah. blah. blah.
It was funny though, the brother and sister-in-law of the bride, who happened to have attended my wedding as well, said that my wedding was far better than this one. I asked how much they think this wedding cost...wheh, almost 6 times over what I paid for mine. They incurred debt for their wedding, I paid cash for mine...just because mine was far cheaper. hehe
So I met up with them for Mother's Day brunch. A lot of these people I don't remember or probably have never met. Some of them remembered me and kept telling me who they were, or my mom would introduce me and give me tidbits on who they were. I told them, you can keep telling me and I'll keep forgetting. What's interesting though is they told me where they lived and I was there before, I would remember the place but not the people. I guess that's sort of the same when I travel, I look forward to the place but not the people. I don't think interacting with the locals is the best use of my time..rather exploring the scenery. I just found it odd, but I guess it explains a lot of things.
