There's a time and a place we hide behind;

Apr 25, 2004 17:09

We arrived at the venue around 5.15, a little behind/earlier than scheduled; just depends on how you look at it. We were too worried, we figured they (Orgy) were just drinking (It's a joke, really, so learn to take one). When we finally got there, we parked in one of those park and pay parking lots in Deep Ellum and walked down to the venue where there were only two people waiting. It turns out everyone else was on the other side of the venue waiting for Orgy to come out. The door was open and we were too scared to ask to go in early, so Amanda asked for us. The guys are Deep Ellum Live can be real dicks. So, I waited while Jessica and Donna ran off to wait for them and I listened to Orgy do their warm up (Amanda, Donna's friend was just hanging around too. She really didn't care.) Well, Jessica and Donna got to meet Amir, get a few pictures taken with him. Everyone from the side of the building came back and hung out with us. A couple of them were from school. They were really cool because they didn't have to tell us that if we bought a certain amount of merchandise/certain thing we'd get a special guest pass to wait after the show to meet the band. There were a few people there sporting synthetic dread falls. Very few of them were actually any good. After hours of standing there and staying fairly entertained with mind numbing chatter. Dani and Ryan showed up, but I guess they had to go back down to the line or something. Felt kind of bad for them.

Donna and I made Jessica hide her camera when 8.00 rolled around because they were starting to open the door. No one actually made it in till after 8 because people who were buying their tickets at Will Call were thinking that they had the right to go in before everyone else who bought their tickets ahead of time. I thank Amanda for holding my mom's cell phone because if I had to take it to the car, I would've just dropped it on the ground and went in because there was no way I was taking it back to the car and going to the end of the line for any thing. When we got inside Donna and I ran straight for the merchandise table, but the thing that sucks the most is that she didn't have her money box set up at the time, so I just ran and got my spot down front in center. I sent Donna's brother, Donald, to get my a CD. I never did give him the money to get a beer as my way of saying thank you, but I figured later into the evening that was the best thing.

There were three opening bands and they played in this order:

Download.

They were okay. They weren't great because they sounded so generic it was a little ridiculous. I could've swore the second song the played sounded way too familiar. Either they're getting their stuff played on the radio or I'm an ass.

Diturmenation.

That's not a really bad misspelling, but I think that's how the guy had it spelt on his guitar, so I'm assuming that's the way the band spells their name. They were actually pretty good and they hate Bush, so it's great. Donald was screaming things at them like, 'shut the hell up you tree fuckers' and their reply was, 'I'd fuck a tree if I wouldn't get splinters in my dick.' The lead singer was pretty good, he was happy to see Donna and I were getting into it. That's the closest I'll get to a hair band.

The Hunger.

In my opinion, they were the closest thing to Orgy, really good. The keyboard player and the singer switched out a lot during their songs, so I think that was pretty good. They had their keyboard set up on a wobbly stand, I've seen one of those before, but I thought it was pretty cool to see it up close. There set was fucking long or at least it felt like it. I really had to piss (sorry, but it's true) and I hadn't eaten the whole day outside of the Frappe I had a lunch. I wanted to cry, I was feeling like crap and I was in pain, but they were pretty good none the less.

Well, it took them a long time to clear the stage and do a sound check. When Orgy took the stage it was 11.00 and there was a lot of screaming of course. I screamed 'what in the hell do you mean this isn't Rough Cutt?!' and 'bring back Videodrone,' it was funny. At least in my sick state it was. I was really pissed off at how shitty their event staffing is, I felt someone on the ground grabbing my legs. I tried to wave at the guy RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME to help them, but he was off in his own world and so were the others, so when it stopped, I said nothing. Jay had trouble telling the crew to turn up the volume because you really couldn't hear him over all the noise the crowd was making. Jay was really cool with that mic trick stuff. I almost caught his towel. I touched his arm and that's about it. Their set was pretty much a non-stop thing.

Afterward, I managed to get my hands on a set list. Paige/Jay/Amir smudged it up pretty bad by walking on it, it's all crumbled looking. I almost didn't get it because I was waiting for one of the staffing guys to give it to me and of course, one of those assholes walks up and tells me 'show's over time to get out.' Yeah, I got that, hold the fuck on. Meh, but any way, I got my stuff and then I lost Donna and Jessica, so I kind of walked around for a bit and found them again. I got tired of listening to some dumbass talk about how she wanted Amir's pick and not Ryan's. I got tired of listening to her complaining about what she had, so I walked off and wasted another ten bucks on Orgy stuff. I got seven buttons: (one of each member and two that say 'Orgy') and a picture for them to sign. While waiting in line, I ended up getting split away from Jessica and Donna. I didn't feel like talking much, so I really didn't say anything to Orgy when they were signing my picture, but I was polite about it. We tried to wait outside for them, but around 1.40 we decided to go ahead and try to drive home. Donna hurt her knee, so poor Jessica had to try to drive in rain. The storm was pretty bad, I tried to stay awake, but I kept blacking out in the backseat. I got a sandwich and some water on the way home and we ended up getting caught by the train, so we just had to sort of wait it out. I had Donna hold on to my set list and picture because it was raining to hard even putting it in my bag wasn't going to help. My mom walked in and said I didn't call, that was a lot of shit. She was on the internet when I tried to call and my phone never rang, so I'm not worried about it.

That's a pretty crappy post. If I didn't get it done now, then I would've never done it.
