Summary: After months of not-so-secret meetings in his office, a little token of affection isn’t too much to ask for, is it?

Cassidy lay across the surface of her boss’s desk, her naked body agleam with sweat. Giovanni slumped, sated, in his chair, his hair slightly unkempt and his fly open. He felt like having a smoke, but he didn’t have any cigarettes on him, and this whole thing between them started months ago because of her offhand comment on the thickness of his cigars. He couldn’t afford to give her any more time today; his secretaries were already starting to give him knowing looks whenever he asked one of them to call the blonde field agent into his office.
Cassidy languidly stretched her arms out over her head, giving Giovanni an eyeful; his nostrils flared as he exhaled noisily, and a bit of a smirk played across her face.

“Don’t get too full of yourself,” he said, his gaze stuck somewhere between her navel and her ankles.

“Don’t give me a reason to,” she replied, trailing a manicured fingertip down the valley between her breasts.

Giovanni gave a short bark of laughter and tore his eyes away from her flesh, zipping and buttoning his pants. He pulled open the bottom drawer of his desk and took out the comb he stashed there, running it through his hair as he told her, “Keep in mind that you’re not the only girl I sleep with.” (She was.)

“Of course not,” she said, as if she was convinced. (She wasn’t.)

He cleared his throat and looked at her pointedly; she got the hint and sat up slowly, perched on the edge of the desk and leaning down to retrieve her clothing. She took her time sliding her panties up her legs, eyeing her boss from beneath mascara-kissed lashes.

“What?”

“Nothing.” She stood and slipped her bra on, turning so she faced away from him. “Will you hook this, sir?”

He did, tugging on the bra to bring her closer, and leaned forward to kiss the smooth skin of her back, running his hands down to hold her hips. She sighed contentedly, her body relaxing into his touch, but just moments later, she stepped away uneasily.

“Sir,” she said, picking her uniform off the floor and slipping it on over her head, “may I be frank with you?”

That didn’t sound like fun. Giovanni frowned and scratched at the back of his neck. “Go ahead.”

“Well,” she said in a drawling tone that Giovanni knew meant business, as she turned to face him and sat on the desk with her legs crossed. “We’ve been doing this for several months, and it’s been great.”

She paused to pull on one of her white gloves and he felt a “but” coming along.

“But-” He knew it. “-I’m a woman, Giovanni, and I know you have needs because I have needs, too, but they’re different needs than yours, all right? And listen-” He sat back in his chair, impressed by the way her voice started to get lower as she picked up speed, her one gloveless hand gesturing wildly in the air. “-This ‘itch to scratch’ business is all fine and good, but I think you and I both know that an itch doesn’t last this long, so there’s obviously something more here, and since that’s the case, I don’t think a little token of affection every now and then is too much to ask for, do you?”

Giovanni just stared at her.

She sighed and pulled her other glove on, shaking her head. “Forget it.”

“I will.” (He won’t.)

In the silence that followed, Giovanni straightened his tie slowly and watched Cassidy reapply her lipstick. Tokens of affection weren’t exactly his thing. He was the boss of one of the most evil organizations known to man and pokemon alike; affection wasn’t even supposed to be in his vocabulary. But what was he supposed to do now? This woman had gotten under his skin from the very beginning. He wanted her like crazy. All the goddamn time. But he’d never thought to tell her that. And once they left his office, he basically ignored her existence. But he had to do that. He ignored the existence of all of his agents. She couldn’t ask him to do otherwise. Well, he supposed she could, but… That would make things terribly serious, wouldn’t it?

But maybe it was time to get serious.

By the time he reached this conclusion, she was fully dressed and already halfway out the door. He stood up quickly to follow her, catching her arm a few feet outside the office door, commanding, “Wait a moment.” She stopped and looked at him and he felt the eyes of his secretaries on him, as well. He tightened his grip on her arm and met her gaze evenly, jaw set. He said nothing and they stood there for minutes, staring each other down in silence, until he decidedly wrenched his hand away and threw his arms around her, pulling her slight frame snug against him. Cassidy gasped against the fine silk of his suit, her hands pressed uselessly against his chest.

“Sir, what are you doing?”

“I’m giving you a hug,” he muttered into her hair. “A token of affection. I admit I’m not very good at this, but I’ll do my best. That good enough for you?”

“Duh, boss,” she said, laughing lightly. “I only meant I wanted you to buy me some earrings or something.”

He held her for a bit longer, his ears turning red as he tried to ignore the chuckles of his secretaries, and then released her with a curt nod. “Of course. You’re dismissed.”

“Thank you, sir,” she said, managing to keep the smirk off her face until after he’d retreated stiffly.

And a few days later, when she left his office with a pair of sparkling diamonds dangling from her ears, she gave the secretaries a saucy wink and they applauded her until Giovanni yelled for them quiet down.
