Vivi sat straight in her seat at the long table, in the perfect structure she’d been taught all her life. Her hands clasped in her lap, expression as serious as her and her father’s comrades at this solemn, stuffy meeting of business. She refused to fidget or shift, determined to make a professional and experienced impression on everyone, including her father.
A servant bowed to her and asked, “What refreshment will you have, Princess?”
She paused before responding, letting the words sink in - the exact words she’d heard one day while aboard the Going Merry.
“What refreshment will you have, Princess?” had been the query from the ship’s chef, his face bright with the desire to please. She’d responded that anything would do, and consequently had sent the man into a tizzy trying to concoct a beverage - a new and special “anything” - that would glide down her delicate throat in blissful perfection.
The glass before her had been moist and iced with drops of condensation, the liquid inside a rich shade of blue; it had glittered like a jewel with the rays of the sun. The yellow floral flourish had complemented its appearance - the thin stem of the flower wrapping around the stem of the glass, the petals brushing the rim. A “Blue Wednesday” he’d called it, referring to her code name in Baroque Works - a special drink, an “anything”, created just for her with all the “love and passion” in his “heart, body, and soul”. He’d made her blush, and the pink tint of her cheeks had made him visibly swoon in return. Too caught up in the other, neither had noticed when a quick and mischievous hand had stretched out and grabbed the glass; Luffy had drowned the contents in one gulp. Sanji had soon broken from his trance, instead growling and chasing after his captain, threatening to strangle him until he coughed it back up.
And there, just as she had done on the deck of the pirate ship, Vivi broke the somberness of the meeting room, threw her head back, and laughed.
