Granted, once they were kissing the only thing on his mind was wetness and lips and where to put his hands, but the fact that other girl had even crossed his mind still bothered him. Getting to that point with Cho was something he’d been working toward for a long time. He’d only just met Luna that year. Why, why should he think of her in such romantic, life changing moment? It was a little unnerving, almost more so than the salty tears that he’d felt trickling down Cho’s cheeks.
He slowly made his way back toward the Gryffindor rooms, pondering, absently running the knuckles of his hand over his still tingling lips. The gentle padding sound of bare feet against the floor and a soft “Hello, Harry” jolted him from his trance.
“Luna.” Harry figured someone or something out there was trying to drive him mad. “Are you-Is it your shoes, again?”
“Mm.” Luna nodded. “I thought I’d look for a bit, before the break.” She approached him, the dim light of the corridor giving her a supernatural appearance. “I’m going to miss our meetings, you know.”
“Ah, y-yeah,” he stammered. “Me too.”
Her eyes glittered at him kindly and she tucked hair behind her ear.
“Well, goodnight, Harry.”
“Goodnight,” Harry replied, vaguely, momentarily distracted by how unusually angelic her hair looked and how soft it felt when she brushed past him. He turned suddenly and called after her, “Luna! Do Nargles hang around mistletoe?”
“Oh, sure,” she said over her shoulder. “They’re fond of holly and garlands as well.”
Harry opened his mouth to speak, but nothing came out. The thought of her favorite topic brought an attractive brightness to her face, and he found himself drawn to the upward curve of her mouth.
“Harry?” Her tone was light and patient, not prodding. “Did you want something else?”
“I-I don’t know.”
She smiled and Harry’s traitorous heart skipped a beat.
“That’s all right. I’m sure you’ll think of something in time.” She raised her hand and wiggled her fingers at him. “Have a happy Christmas, Harry.”
Harry watched until her pale figure disappeared around a corner before he continued on his way, feeling considerably disoriented. Enjoying a first kiss shouldn’t be so complicated.
