Come Out and Quench Your Thirst With Me at Monday Movie Night!

Jul 09, 2007 02:44

July 9 is Corporate Propaganda Week at Monday Movie Night. As part of the evening this week, host Tom Robinson will speak about the wonders of Technicolor.

This week's schedule:
Miracle Healers (Don Como, 1978, color, 60 minutes)
One year before Jim Jones tended bar for the final time in Guyana, he participated in this interesting little film about psychic surgery. This week, the Mississippi Station will offer a signature cocktail in honor of the event. I'm not saying what the secret ingredient is. It's a surprise.

Destination Earth (American Petroleum Institute, 1957, Technicolor, 8 min.)
Animated for those of you who have ADHD or will be stoned.

Telephone Manners (US Post Office, 1972, color, 10 minutes)
I'm not certain how the Post Office fancies itself an expert on manners in any medium, but apparently they decide to encroach on another public services' territory in this instructional film.

Special Bonus: Neil Goldschmidt television campaign commercial, (1971, color, 3 minutes). Not the actual ad, this is the outtake reel. He's presumably high as a kite, and not much of an orator as they try to film it. See Neil on his downward spiral before they figured out he was doing the underage daughter of a campaign worker.

Don't forget, next Monday, July 16, Monday Movies will present Animation Week!

Spend a couple of hours under the stars as you view some of the finest documentary and educational films salvaged from the 20th century. The show begins at sunset, on the patio of Mississippi Station in North Portland. Local media historian and author Tom Robinson will introduce each 16mm print from his collection and play it on a vintage projector older than you are. See these original films the way they were meant to be seen, on a real projector, on a real screen, and drunk.
