I Thought We Were Friends

Dec 07, 2008 15:24

You know, friends. Hanging out, seeing a movie together, sharing a pizza or a cocktail once in awhile. What happened? You used to come by. But it’s been a long time.

Is it the weather? I’ll admit it’s damn cold out. But hey, there’s a roaring fire here, and the #6 and 72 buses go by every 15 minutes. It’s not like the 1 block walk is going to kill you. It’s not like it’s frozen-pee-on-the-sidewalk-NYC cold out. Are you a total wuss?

Is it the economy? Come on. It’s free to get in to the show. After 9pm there are cheese and pepperoni slices for $1.50, and $2 well drinks. $2?! You can’t even have a Pabst at most places for $2. So what’s the deal? You can bring your kids here. Even that one that is loaded up on all those ADD meds who got kicked out of school for yanking his pants down during home room every day last year. Where else can you feed them for $1.50 I’d like to know.

We’re showing a lovely little film tomorrow night, Miracle Healers (color, 60 minutes). It was commissioned by old Jimmy Jones himself, in 1978, as a promo for the People’s Temple. Hey, I know what you’re thinking pal, and this is NOT that kind of film! This was a whole year before that whole incident, and it was shot in San Francisco, not some Third World cholera-infested hellhole. The temple was a fun-filled testament of God’s love back when this was made, and I resent you saying otherwise! This movie is chock full of scenes of miraculous psychic surgery, and wondrous healings. Only a hateful non-believing Democrat would miss the chance to see this fine piece of documentary magic.

We’ll be upstairs at the Vanport Old Town Pizza, in that loft/catwalk thing once again. We’ll be setting up at 7:30, and starting the film at 8pm. Paul is behind the bar, and even though he’s from Scotland, where I don’t even think they allow handguns or some crazy Communist crap, he’s still a good egg. He’s pouring a couple of specialty items in honor of this evening. Things like “Jonestown Gin” and “Kids First Ketal One”. Whether you choose the red Jesus juice or the purple, rest assured it will go down smooth.

So are you coming by, or what?
