Musings on Lisa E & Hollywood

May 21, 2011 22:53

Hollywood is a hard, cynical place. It seems to me that @LisaEdelstein is handling her current predicament on House M.D. probably the best way she can: now that she's thrown down the gauntlet, she's at peace. Either they'll make her a better deal or not, better not to lie awake about it. She didn't take this step lightly because she truly likes the show and the opportunities it has brought her. But with the declining quality of writing, the increasing misogyny, etc. the insulting new contract probably was too much to accept. I applaud her for striving to maintain a balance between the reality of working in a cut-throat industry and her desire to stay grounded and happy. She seems like the type of person whom everyone likes and who genuinely likes people, finds the best in people, but also is wise enough not to take it too personal when some of the same people will inevitably disappoint her. In short: I admire her.
