Olivia Wilde: confused

Feb 25, 2010 22:46

Maybe someone can explain this to me. Olivia Wilde ("Thirteen") from House M.D. seems to have two, in my eyes, conflicting personae. On the one hand, she lives in Venice Beach with her bohemian film maker/artist Italian scion-of-minor-aristocracy husband Tao Ruspoli. She starred in her hubby's short art film Fix. When they originally met, they lived in a converted school bus. She's very active in Artists for Peace and Justice, a laudable non-profit. She was in Haiti shortly before the devastating earthquake in that capacity. She shows up at awards and soirées in classy, beautiful dresses. She is very nice and personable when interviewed. She supports progressive causes. On the other hand, she does photo shoots for magazines that go all the way to (almost?) over the line separating sexy from sleazy:

I don't understand why she does these types of photos. What am I missing here? Sure, I like a sexy woman as much as the next guy but I much prefer her like this:

OK, so maybe these examples are a little bit like the two extremes. Sure. Still, the top two photos are definitely set up to be provocative. She has many more photo shoots that show her scantily dressed and alluring but these take the cake in my eyes. I'd understand if she would do photos like that when she was a young and coming actress maybe, but nowadays? She's a little bit of a hippie-"la principessa hippie" as they've called her in Italy-, nothing wrong with that. This polarity, is this just the way things are today? Enlighten me, please, female readers...
