We rented a car and drove up to Pleasantville, about an hour north from New York City. Rockefeller State Park Preserve is a beautiful nature preserve, and a large part of it is around Swan Lake. It was boiling hot but we brought water. The social distancing was excellent. We were alone most of the time and when we saw other people, we all pulled up our masks. Jeff and I had a wonderful time. I think we ate in some undistinguished outdoor restaurant, probably a diner. We never go to chain restaurants if we can help it. There used to be a great book, "Road Food", a guide to hundreds of out of the way restaurants. It's badly outdate. Most of the restaurants are probably gone.
I think those are lily pads.
This is a wire mesh turtle trap. Box turtles are commonly sold in pet stores and are not native to this area. This is a safe trap, so they can be taken somewhere else.
As a NYC resident, I haven't seen a chipmunk in decades. So I had to get a picture!
And of course a frog.
I don't often take pictures of places like these, since you can buy postcards. But having a phone that can take decent pictures at last, and being ridiculously excited by all of the flora and fauna, I had to!
