Tracking My LJ Life...
It occurred to me the other day that if LJ went down, I would lose years of entries. So I decided to make several Word docs. The first one is "Personal", so far the second one is "Idle House entries". Not the stories, which are all on my hard drive, but thoughts, arguments, etc. I just came across a post done in 2010, "When Good Fandoms Go Bad." It's f-locked because of the craziness back then, but I'll reprint a bit of it. Because some things about fandom never change. ;):

Here's what I don't get...the frenzy. Over, I'm sorry, A FUCKING TELEVISION PROGRAM. Right now there's a battle royal that's been going since Hugh Laurie was nominated for an Emmy. Some people had the temerity to say that HL probably wouldn't win because Season 6 wasn't that strong.
Cue the freakouts! The torches! The arguments! Jesus H. Christ waxing the floor, can it get any more aggravating??
A: I'm right. This is why. (Gets out piechart and stick)
B: No, I'm right. This is why. (Gets out stacks of printed out Internet articles)
C: No, I'm right and all of you are wrong. (Pulls out graph and semaphore flags)
B: Okay, that's your opinion. (shrug)
A: Of course it's my opinion, you moron. But it's not just opinion, it's written in stone fact and you are EVIL for disagreeing with me.
C: I agree, you're evil. And misinformed. Everything you say is wrong.
B: Okay, you're right.
A: Saying I'm right is wrong.
D: Excuse me, people, but I've been lurking and I'd just like to say that I love that everyone's fighting!
E: I had a problem with Season 6. I thought Season 5 is better.
C: That's because you're a moron. Season 6 is better. (does Powerpoint presentation)

I mean, the fuck? What really gets me is how much it gets me. I can never get over people hating people THEY HAVE NEVER MET! When I meet people from the Interwebs in person, we generally like each other and get along fine, even if we disagree vehemently on certain things. I mean, I have friends who are REPUBLICANS! JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES! WHO OWN GUNS!
