Strangely, I think I enjoyed this episode BECAUSE it was Sam and Dean light. Or rather, their replacements were so much more interesting. I have a feeling there are episodes where the Js look at the script and think - cool, we can just phone this one in, and others that require real thought and commitment. This was a break for them and I think you're spot on with the tired feeling about it. They knew it was more about Jody and Donna and let them have it. The Mark stuff is just weird - I'm hoping it will make more sense after the next ep (tho not sure I should be holding my breath on that one).
And don't even start me on Sam's hair. It's either character assasination or hair assassination with Sam these days. Ugh.
