The Me Me Me My Fic Meme

Oct 08, 2011 22:17

This is all over the place.  Which has led to lots of lovely reading! :)  So, here's my turn.

Ask me a question about one of my fanfics.
It can be absolutely anything in any fic and I will tell you the answer. Don’t hold back. Whatever you ask, I have to answer truthfully.

You know how wacked-out some of my stuff is.  Ask away!

What made you think of Johanna looking like Wilson?

Hee hee. This is fun.

Jeez, that's a good one. I first started the story high on cold meds, but that's no excuse. The image of S6 Wilson--overweight with that awful haircut--in a ballgown struck me funny. And the situation was so over the top I felt I could put in anything. (The original first few chapters even had Johanna at sixteen years old and about to become the Queen) and there was never supposed to be anything but the absolute crackiest crack.

As I worked on the story, Johanna took on her own personality, almost with Wilson as a template. And then it started to get a bit more serious, and well, you know...

But it was just supposed to Wilson in a dress. The best intentions, etc.

Johanna looking like Wilson in my mind is a lot prettier than the latest cast photo of House in that wedding dress. That totally...nooo. Johanna would be pretty.

Yeah, Wilson was overweight in S6 w that awful haircut. Good reason, to think of Johanna. :)

Yes, Wilson is pretty! Have you ever seen the video for "I Feel Pretty" with Wilson and Chase? It's really hilarious.

I hope you don't think I'm being paranoid but was I one of the Hilson writers you were making fun of in "We Interrupt This Story For Epic Fic is Epic"?

No! I plunged into fanfic head first, so most of it was from ff.net. Your fic doesn't have any of these elements, does it? I keep recalling musicals and pod people. Neither are exactly cliches.

Rather than a specific fic question, I'll ask about your approach to fanfic as a whole. Is it "just fanfic" meaning you hold it to a lower standard than something you would try to sell as professional, original writing?

No. I've put as much or more work into TP&TP as I have into anything else I've written. When it's finished, I'll probably do a thorough edit. Everything I write has the same importance for me. Some of it is more meaningful, and some are just little toss-offs. But it's all my writing and I hold all of my writing to the same standard.

In fact, I'm pissed as hell that David Shore etc. own House.

Good for you! I take great offense a the "It's just fanfic" approach, especialy when I sense, it's the writing getting defensive in the face of concrit.

A lot of writers seem to feel that their original fiction is somehow better or more important than their fanfic. My favorite of my shorter fics is "Nice Day For A White Wedding." If it wasn't a fanfic I would definitely submit it for publication.
