Twitter and Facebook and Bears OH MY!

Sep 02, 2010 09:38

I don't give a rat's ass if you link your comments to Twitter or Facebook, even if it's to a locked post.

Why?

Because doing so doesn't actually violate my privacy and that's what I think people aren't getting.

For one, even if a person were to follow the link on your tweet or FB post, most of my posts are open and open for a reason.

Secondly, even if the post is locked in some fashion, the person following the link from FB or Twitter still won't be able to see it. Why? Because they need a LJ user account and be on the filter for that post. This doesn't provide some secret back-door into locked posts, this has been proven a couple of places on LJ (cleolinda ran some experiments).

Third, LJ's URLs don't show post titles, so a person following the link won't even get that.

The most some busy-body will get is that you have access to something on my LJ and they don't. OMG THE PRIVACY VIOLATION IS VIOLATING MY PRIVACIES!!!11!

Finally, to the people who are all "OMGNEVERLINKMYPOSTSEVENIFTHEYAREOPEN" I think you're silly. You're posting open information openly on the Internet. If you don't want some random passer-by or your Aunt Matilda knowing that you're actually DonkeyPunch292 over on LJ, then perhaps you should lock your posts.

Remember, the rule of LJ is public is open to all, locked isn't.
