I wonder whether it's a question of genetics or upbringing that makes a person identify with their ethnicity. I wasn't raised in any particular way, with any particular traditions, but I definitely feel one dominant cultural contact. I've only been once, but the sights and sounds of Scotland and its culture sets me on fire. Always have. Bagpipes? Break out the kleenex. Rolling green hills? Swoon.
Even more odd is that I'm a mix of so many other things, including German and Cherokee. So where are they? I don't feel any particular connection to the other parts of my genetic/cultural heritage. I've always considered myself chiefly Scottish.
It would be a strange thing indeed if genetic dominance had something to do with that.
