“Throw your heart over the fence and the rest will follow.” - Norman Vincent Peale || 793 words

You're missed at school.
I am?
You're special.

You're sweet. And a really nice girl.

You're not used to flattery. You're actually a little scared, and very shy, because you're not used to it. Especially not from guys. You don't know what to say. You've never spoken to him, you didn't even know that he knew who you were.

You're really nice.

You tell him the first thing that you can think of and instantly think how stupid it sounds. He's complimenting you, why couldn't you say something better? He is nice, one of those rare guys who is genuinely nice and sweet. And he's kind of cute to boot.

He tells you that he has to go help his mom set the table and you feel a little sad. You're contemplating asking Sarah whether he talks about you, if he's said anything. Does he like you? You think that you like him. Before this you probably wouldn't have thought about it, but you feel good. You like talking to him.

You fell asleep across the couch later that evening, your computer resting on the small table next to you as you watched a movie. Your mom wakes you just before she goes to bed, prefering you to sleep in your own bed. You take a couple of minutes to fully wake up, and stretch, noticing the flashing on your screen. The movie finished while you slept, but your internet was still connected.

Still here Rach?
AWAY: Watching a movie
Must be good. You should see one with me

Did he ask you out? Or...

Tuesday. Goodnight Rachel.

He asked you out, sort of, and you missed it. You leave him a quick message knowing that he's already signed off, apologising and teasing that you'll only go if you can choose. You wait for a few more minutes but he's not online, eventually taking yourself to bed. You go to sleep with a smile on your face, feeling a little good. And looking forward to the week.

You can choose.

You miss his message due to breakfast. You'd put your instant message on just in case he was there. And he still is when you return.

Sorry, breakfast.
Was it good?
Very, can't beat my moms cooking.
Movie on tuesday then?
I'm choosing.
Of course.
:)
I like your smile.
Really?
Its a nice smile
:) :)

You talk for a while but not about anything in particular. You still have that little feeling from last night. And the day before. And you think now that you probably do quite like him. No one else is this nice to you or makes you feel like this.

You finally managed to pick a movie. Sarah was a big help on that, she's slightly dated and can be quite helpful where you're clueless. Especially in something like this. Sarah's excited for you, clearly. She knows Daniel and thinks that he's great; and she knows that he likes you. And is a little bit excited that you're mostly sure that you like him.

He saw you on monday. Bought you a coffee, dangling it in front of you from over your shoulder as you had lunch. And reminded you about the movie. You told him that you already had one picked but refused to tell him when he asked.

"Can I talk to you for a second?" He actually asked. You shoot a small glance to Sarah before standing up to follow him, making sure to take your coffee with you. You hold it closely to you as you walk as if its something precious. Coffee is precious to you, but this is different since you didn't buy it.

"You better not be backing out." You try to make it sound light and jokey but being a little bit nervous you're not sure how it comes out.

"Would I?" You smile back as he smiles, drinking a little bit of your coffee when you feel yourself maybe blush. "Sarah's been talking to me about you." Your eyes widen and you wonder what she's said. She's supposed to be good at keeping secrets.

"You should not trust what she says." He laughs a little and you try not to panic as you think about what she could have said. She could have told him that you like him, thats really all that you've said. You think.

"She's been telling me how to treat you."

"Oh?" This intrigues you. You're not dating and Sarah's already being a little protective. He leans in to whisper and you laugh a little at what he says. You rest a hand on his arm when he moves away, stretching on to your toes to whisper back I like you.
