my german food pwn'd you!

I cooked tonight. I don't know why I don't do it more often.

My mother gifted me a cookbook compiled with German-Russian recipes from the women of my hometown.

As a side-note, old German ladies can't format recipes worth shit. All ingredients ought to be listed right off the bat, not gradually revealed in the directions. Sheesh.

I made knoepfla soup. It was teh deliciousness.

Here's the recipe. I've modified it a bit to suit my tastes.

STEVO'S KNOEPFLA SOUP

Ingredients:

2 c. flour
2 large eggs
1/2 c. cold water
2 qt. chicken broth
4 medium white potatoes
2 large carrots
3 large chicken breasts
1/2 pint heavy cream
3 tablespoons corn starch

Preheat oven at 350 degrees. Season chicken breast and bake for 30 minutes.

Mix eggs and flour w/ hands. Add water slowly until a firm dough is formed. Let dough set aside.

Heat chicken broth (bouillon OK) in 5 qt pot. Add prepared carrots and potatoes. Roll dough between hands like you would with Play-Doh (yeah, you know what I'm talking about...) to thin it out. Cut off small pieces into the broth once it reaches a rolling boil to make little dumplings. Boil for roughly 5 minutes. Dice chicken and add to mix. Lower heat to a simmer, adding cream and dissolved corn starch to thicken. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Simmer for 30 minutes.
