today was good. I didn't see the game, but i saw sportscenter.
The Wrap-up
Greg Maddux notched his 291st career win, stole a base and scored two runs Monday to lift the Chicago Cubs to a 7-3 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals and split a four-game series.
Sammy Sosa, Derrek Lee and Todd Walker each hit two-run homers as the Cubs gained their first split at Busch Stadium since June 18-21, 2001.
Maddux is nine wins shy of 300, and when he gets to the mark, he'll be the first National League pitcher to reach the mark since Steve Carlton did so in September 1983.
Maddux last stole a base for the Cubs on Aug. 9, 1991, a stretch of 4,651 days between steals. Evidently, he's focused more on his pitching than his baserunning.
Lee connected in the eighth, his third home run, off Mike Lincoln, to drive in Aramis Ramirez who walked. The blast sailed 410 feet to straightaway center.
Sosa hit his sixth home run of the season and No. 545 of his career off Cal Eldred with two out in the ninth. He is three away from tying Mike Schmidt (548) for ninth on the all-time list.
Sounds good to me. Everybody root for Cincy to finally take a game against the Astro's, it'll put us back in first.
