Interesting drive

Thankfully, Steve is allowing me to languish in bed until mid-morning, as he knows how bad my sleeping pattern is at the moment, and how long it takes for me to shut my brain down and go to sleep at night...

So after I got up, showered and dressed, and then made us both a banana smoothie, I then did some photo editing and sorting, before we headed out for a nice afternoon drive. First we went to Halls Gap to have a late lunch / early dinner and some ice cream, before driving back home, but via an alternative route - which was both quite interesting, and a little hairy.

From Halls Gap, we took the main road towards Dunkeld, which is near the southern end of the Grampians National Park, but about 1/3 of the way through, turned off to take a dirt road through a lower pass of the range towards Pomonal via Mafeking Road. I wish I'd stopped a few times to take some more pictures, but the rather narrow road made it a bit difficult - not that we passed a SINGLE other vehicle. Not until we were way back in to normal sealed roads. We passed a big open clearing area where they apparently have some sort of modern-day hippy music festival.

At one stage, we came across part of the road that had been blocked off due to rain damage - which was quite obvious, as there were huge gouges and ditches in the road, making it impassable for even the most equipped 4WD. Even the "normal" roads were pretty damed rough in some places, so thank goodness for my very capable 4WD! The first proper town (or settlement) we came to was Moyston, and from there we headed back towards Halls Gap, and then back home to Stawell...

A very nice and interesting drive indeed.

This kookaburra let me get surprisingly close to get this pic!
