No water for dayyyyyyyys

Tuesday Oct 5, Stephanie comes over and picks up Grandma Tootsie's "china" that has been sitting in the buffet ever since it came into the house when Dad and Uncle Joe cleaned out her house after she passed away in September of 2013. I was so happy to have her dining room set, and they brought everything that was inside it, too, all the dishes, the silverware, all the drinking glasses from the kitchen cabinets, too. I finally decided that there's no reason to keep all the "china" because I'm never going to use it. I had a long conversation with my mom about it to ensure I was making the right decision. I looked it up on the internet and it seems like it was a set that was super mass produced and doesn't have a lot of value. I could have put it up on ebay and let it go piece by piece, but I'm not into that. Plus it's heavy and the shipping and packing would have been a pain in the ass. Not worth it. So anyway, Stephanie picked it all up - she takes things to Mercy Mall, which is a non profit charity she works with through her church. When she was over, Ryan ran the water to wash some dishes and noticed that the pressure was low. So I put a post on Nextdoor to see if anyone else in the neighborhood was experiencing the same problem, like if it was a larger issue, and I texted my neighbor Marian, but she reported the next day that she wasn't having a problem. It had been really wet and rainy, so looking in the yard didn't really yield any results of where any sort of leak could have been coming from. Plus it was dark, and couldn't really see anything.

Wednesday Oct 6, I woke up and took Elle to go to the bathroom. It's light out, and I decide to check out around the pool area because it's weird to me that the water in the boxed in area around the pool is still there. I go over to where the filter is and I look down and through the grass I can see a trickle of water. The grass is so high at this point because it's been so rainy that the landscapers haven't been out to cut the grass. I decide this is the time to call the company that we have the exterior pipe protection plan through. I spoke with someone who took all my information and they said they would call back with an exact date and time. By lunchtime, I have a PT appointment and in the parking lot before I go in, I decide to call and check the status. Now the person I talk to says that they don't have any notes on my account from that previous call. UGH. So we set up for them to come out on Friday afternoon.

Thursday Oct 7, Finally the landscapers come. We're working from home and I hear a knock on the door. I had been busy in meetings, and I had wanted to warn them of what's going on before they got started, but didn't get a chance to. They show me in the yard where they tried to run the mower but it was just a swamp under all that tall grass. So looks like we found where the leak is. We decided to shut off the main line.

Friday Oct 8, John from McAtee plumbing comes out to check out the leak. He's digging and digging and digging, but can't find anything. So he turns the water on at the street and water starts coming up out of the hole he dug. Well, that's obviously the place where the leak is but where. is. it? He finally finds it, but where it is doesn't make sense and everyone involved is super confused about why that pipe is even there. Marian stops by to check things out, and Keith is over to see Rizzo after work. We're all just looking in the hole like WTF. So John lets his company know that they'll need an excavator to come do the rest of the work bc one man and a shovel ain't cuttin it. They'll call me back to schedule a time.

Fast forward to Friday Oct 15. George and (I think) Charles come out from McAtee with the excavator. Meanwhile this whole time the water's been off, I showered at my mom's house, Ryan showered at Keith's house, we've been eating shitty fast food, I did laundry at mom's house, but all she had was Gain detergent and Ryan didn't feel safe with her allergies and switching to a different brand of detergent. So we ended up re-washing all that shit later. So George digs the hell out of the yard looking for the rest of that pipe that John found. After an unsuccessful morning, at around noon they go get lunch and go at a different route. The go from the main coming from the street, find that, cut it, and run the rest of it under the house and back into the house water supply. They were there till 6pm filling in all the holes they had dug. Now I'm waiting for tomorrow, Friday Oct 22 for another different company to come look at the mess and throw down some sod or something. The moral of the story is - thank goodness for the Water Line Protection Plan offered through Dominion. I don't have to pay ANYTHING for all this.
