Reinventing Myself Professionally

Mar 12, 2016 11:50

Last Autumn I left my position at Mondelez, International after nine years of service for a temporary position with Amazon. I had intended for this to work into a permanent position, but this did not pan out. I have been unemployed now since early January. I am grateful to my folks for a large gift of money for Christmas yielded from the sale of Mom's house in Midlothian that has helped me through this time, but this won't last forever. I am also receiving unemployment benefits from the state. My son was also born on January 17, and we are anxiously awaiting for him to be able to come home after his surgery to have a g-tube implanted.
It is in this light that my fiance's best friend, out of concern for her well-being, recommended a book to me that I am endeavoring to take to heart. The book is _What Color is Your Parachute? 2016_ by Richard N. Bolles. Already I have learned that a resume is less important than your web presence, and what that presence says about you. Doing a search on my name I discovered that the top result that came up was for my DeviantArt page and I am attempting to learn how to use Photoshop in order to create an actual gallery of work to post thereon. I am also bolstering my presence on other forms of social media, this blog included.
My goals are to obtain a position with an established company while attempting to research and gather what is necessary for my own startup businesses. I also intend to practice towards the goal of busking. The three businesses I wish to start would all be under one roof: a shop, a restaurant, and a nightclub, all with a geek culture theme.
Raising a child and helping your significant other recover her health after childbirth can be time-consuming. I am doubting that I will even be able to attend the memorial service for Bud Webster in Williamsburg today, but I intend to do as much of my To Do List as I can.
