Fly Me To The Moon

Hope everyone had a lovely Fourth o' July. Me? Well I was stuck at work for four hours but I got time and a half so that was a nice little bonus. Before that I had a nice lunch with Parul and I realized how much Parul seems to be going through the exact same things that I am going through or have been going through. Lots of thoughts and cognitive congestion. It's turned me into an awful cynic and I've actually started snapping at people, which may or may not be a new thing, but I'm working on it. After work, Muh Tre C, Gin, Parul, and I all headed to Byrd Park in Richmond for some firework love. I'll be honest there was a little vodka involved (not with the driver though, which was Parul) and we did encounter some sketchy characters (of which Gin politely flipped the bird) and there was a somewhat tragic attempt at a PG strip poker game amid the distant firework lights. Just when we all thought the fireworks were over, suddenly there was a huge burst to our left and we all ran to the edge of the pond in Byrd Park to watch the redux of fireworks. Fireworks reflecting on the pond- beautiful and almost ruined by Parul screaming "Pollution!". Almost. As we slowly made our way out of the Byrd Park area we made it to Belvidere only to take a right instead of a left. Let me just say Southside really is a wonderful area of Richmond. Once we realized we were heading to death we quickly turned around. I must say the best moment of the night was when we were driving back to 95 over the James and we were listening to "Fly Me To The Moon" by Frank Sinatra. If you know what bridge I'm talking about then you know the view of the city. The view at night was unbelievable. For one fleeting moment everything seemed perfect. Perfect song, people, mood, life. Just perfect.
Now I will conclude with a confession. It is a music confession. So I downloaded a song by Orgy. For everyone who isn't Peter you may now throw any leftover food you have at me. Yes, I know that hard punk isn't generally my style, but every now and then, ooh what a guilty pleasure. Especially the particular song, Blue Monday. I just remembered how much I liked it when The Limited started playing the New Order version and to be honest, Orgy does a pretty good job at recreating a song that was already leaning in that punk direction, if not half-way there. Ok I'm done. Peace.
