K dipped her finger in flour and marked her face like warpaints. I looked at her, "What's wrong with you?"
"We're going to bake!" she replies.
I knew what she meant. I, for the love of God, cannot bake.
Simple recipes are opportunities to second guess myself. I struggle with questions such as:
-1/4 butter, did they really mean butter or can I use margarine?
-Can a baking powder replace baking soda? Can I use the baking soda which has been inside the ref for errr...well we moved in 6 months ago.
-When recipe calls for coffee, did they mean instant or ground coffee or liquid coffee?
-a teaspoonful of cookie dough would make a small cookie. Now if there are 3 tsps to a tbsp, should the distance between cookies increase 3x too?
-why did God invent yeast into two different ways?
-Why doesn't tartar powder look anything like tartar sauce?
Profound questions that just baffles me.
Last night was churros night.
you put 1 cup of water, 1 tsp of salt, 1/2 cup of butter in a pan over low heat. Stir until it becomes like a ball or gooey like glue. Then beat 3 eggs into the mixture. Don't forget to remove from heat before you start throwing eggs into the mixture. Use one of those cake decorating thingees (a word K and I often use, "can you hand me that round thingee with a wooden handle?" "this thingee?" ahuh. And battle marches on.
Fry. Sugar. Ground Cinnamon.
And then you wonder where the 10 pounds came from. AHUH.
