i would rather post pictures from vacation than transfer bio notes. i would rather read the book, sans note-taking, than post pictures. therein lies a dilemma.
copenhagen!
this is some kind of federal building in copenhagen, most likely. please take note that these captions are not going to be balling.
still copenhagen, possibly a castle?
the new opera house in oslo, the capital of norway (yes way).
scuptures in vigeland park. gustav vigeland agreed to donate all his works to the city of oslo in exchange for a pretty building in which to work.
my personal favorite sculpture.
inside of oslo city hall.
viking ships!
the ra II, a raft constructed by thor heyerdahl to prove that ancient rafts could make long sea voyages, e.g. from morocco to barbados.
at the museum at the vemork power station in telemark, norway. during world war II, the norwegian resistance movement along with the allied powers sabotaged the nazi-run plant, in order to prevent germany from acquiring heavy water (which was supposedly used to make nuclear weapons).
view of bergen, norway's second-largest city, from the top of surrounding mountains. it was a one-hour hike to the top; when we visited the site earlier that day by cable car, we had forgotten to bring the camera.
more bergen.
a troll.
waterfalls.
a stave church, from when vikings were first converted to christianity (i think).
one leg in each country: my right in norway and my left in sweden.
runes!
and more.
castle of grispholm in mariefred (silent d).
cannon.
stockholm! capital of sweden.
the old town in stockholm. no cars allowed. the red facade is german architecture, and it is very ornate compared to the other buildings, which are more traditionally swedish in style.
changing of the guard.
inside of stockholm city hall, the golden hall...more than 15 million gold tiles. the mosaics depict scenes from swedish history, including norse mythology. the kitchen was built above this room so that the smell of food would not waft into the hall before meals were served.
stockholm.
partying it up, clearly. left to right: our bus driver, thomas; me; my friend katrina from guangzhou; our tour director, daniele.
greenland, from the plane ride home on icelandair.
that's basically all. i got home a week or so ago, and i have been taking it easy, which is a change. simply watching oz, (which has nothing to do with dorothy and the cowardly lion's love-child, or whatever), and reading for bio. My book, Tales of a Shaman's Apprentice: An Ethnobotanist Searches for New Medicines in the Amazon Rain Forest, is fascinating, which of course warrants extensive assigned poking and prodding. Why enjoy a book when you can take two pages of notes per chapter?
also, lol at increasingly correct grammar in that paragraph. WITH ANGER COMES CORRECT PUNCTUATION!!
um, if anyone can recommend (read: burn for me) any rap or hip-hop CDs that they personally enojoyed, i would be very appreciative. think the roots, jurassic 5, KRS-One, public enemy, talib kweli, blackalicious, a tribe called quest, etc. we could trade, if you like; i could acquaint you with fanfare ciocarlia and J.U.F.
