Death... and taxes

Jan 07, 2006 08:08

So I finally got paid my first paycheck on the FEMA job. Three weeks of work translated to a whopping $3,700+. That's damn good money, and it was very well appreciated by my bank account, let.me.tell.you.
Only, my bank account won't be receiving $3700+, as Federal, Social Security, Medicare and state taxes took out more than $1200 of that. Twelve hundred dollars. As in one thousand two hundred dollars. As in more pennies than you'd care to count, no matter how big the jar you've been collecting them in was, no matter how much you could use that money. $1200. Gone. Back to the government. Ridiculous.
Other than that, things are going OK. I've got a nasty cough that's been causing me to hack up a lung nightly, and you start to run out of those after the third night. It hasn't been exactly what I'd call _fun_.
And what's the deal with airline food?
And by the way, when I call you, and leave a message, I fully expect you to return the favor. Come on people, I care enough to call, the least you can do is call back. If not, Christ, you're just _RUDE_.
I'm nearly fully moved out of my apartment in Lafayette with another month on my lease that I'll try to negotiate my way out of the next day off I have. I'll swing out there to go pick up a few more things, talk with my landlord and hopefully sell my furniture, as moving it would prove difficult when you're driving a CIVIC. "Gee officer, I don't know how that eight-foot-long couch fell onto the highway, I had it firmly secured to my Honda Civic, a well known and respected vehicle for hauling large furniture."
League news: We have no news yet.
WoW news: I have no news, as I haven't been able to log in since I took this FEMA job. No internet at home = no time to play. :(
Date news: I, sadly, have no news to report. I am that lame.
Hope everyone is well.
