Needy Neighbors

Do you have someone in your neighborhood that thinks you can solve all their problems?  I can’t drive up the street without walking in the door to a ringing phone; I know who it is too.  We have one neighbor who has a major hard on for big ass concrete pots that she can’t carry much less move.  I get home from school for the first time in a month and I then spend the next hour schlepping 200 pound pots around her backyard.  I also hate her computer.  She is the person who goes out and buys the cheapest no-name computer she can find and then bitches when it doesn’t run everything she throws at it quickly and without issue.

Well this morning I spent three hours with her…  She got a new iPod and the sound doesn’t work on the computer.  Let me tell you about this computer; there is NO name ANYWHERE on the computer.  There also isn’t a label for anything in the back, just a bunch of plugs.  Well, we can open the case and try to see what kind of soundcard it has…  Oh wait; someone used pop-rivets to close the computer.  There is no way to open it, and I am not drilling rivets.

As I try to make it work, she sits there telling me I need a CD.  She keeps shoving a Roxio disc in front of me.  I try and explain that I don’t need that CD, I need some drivers for the motherboards on-board sound card, but I can’t look up a manufacturer because you bought a computer that doesn’t even have a name on it.  I can’t open it to look at the motherboard because the case is riveted shut.

“So?”

To quell the CD dispute, I put the CD in and nothing...  Looking into it, the drivers for BOTH CD drives are missing.

I just got home and there are six messages on the machine asking when I can come finish fixing her computer.  This wouldn’t be such a big problem, but she never pays for anything.  I spent two days wiring lights in her house, and nothing…
