Dusty Day

Aug 26, 2008 00:14

Where yesterday was windy, today was just as dusty. From sunrise till late morning, it was perfect. Then it was windy, dusty, and duststormy till after sunset. It's a bit cold and blustery tonight. A real low day overall. For some, you can see how they were affected by the storm emotionally. Others, how they and their tent or structure faired or didn't make it.

So dusty no pics worth taking. Not worth taking the camera out even. It was a drink water, eat, stay in and find comfort with friends type of day. Comfort was hard to find at times. I really wanted some socialness throughout most of the day and it was hard when everyone else is in a similar place or just feeling the desire to be alone. Thankfully, a walk to Center Camp in the afternoon for Kim and I lifted our spirits. By the time we left the storm was over and we could feel better.

With Kim needing to take a 12 to 8 Shift at the box office, we made some food and napped at 8:30. wasn't a great nap for Kim; I was out hard. Still a little tired and trying to get water and food in me. That was the other struggle most of the day. I just couldn't stay hydrated enough, not in a bad way, yet not well enough to be okay. Same with food, kept feeling like I wanted to eat. Snacked a lot cause it was easier and less work/mess. Just that didn't bring me to a point where I could feel okay just not bad anymore.

Little got done today. Kathy and Tommy showed up. Many people were starting to worry about them. They were going to leave Friday, and be here early Sat morning (much like we wanted to). Life happens and they ended up leaving late Sunday night, arriving somewhere in the dust storm, I think around noon or 1 maybe. They have setup their yurt after the wind lessened (after sundown). I really like the large door versus the smaller door. I will grab pics, maybe tonight. There are 3 yurts setup in camp right now, each witha different door. :)

The dome is holding, some ripping and lots of clips popped off. I would sweep around and put them back. I made a huge bunch more out here on playa. That has helped. I am not sure if I want top use this material again. Live and learn... the clips closer together are working better, maybe that is the trick I need to learn.

It's a city! It's filled in sooo much last night and today. It's amazing to watch it grow. Wristy and I built the tower today and from the 9' platform, you can see all over and how much it has grown! Just impressive. Monday is over!
