This weekend was pretty dope. My roommate is gone so I hung out with different people around the neighborhood, it turned out for the better. Tosin's brother Abdul was in town from New York. He graduated from F.I.T. and after a short stint at Coogi (we all gotta start SOMEWHERE) is now an assistant designer for
Engineered Garments, a menswear brand whose collection revolves primarily around a workwear/American heritage aesthetic. It got me back into thinking about the fashion industry and also inspired me to up my game once again in dressing myself. Not that I ever really slouched, but I did get pretty comfortable in my outfits for a while after moving out, hardly being home made it so I never invested the time to look like I was rocking next level shit, despite the fact that I've been able to build a more than decent wardrobe these past few months.
On Black Friday we stopped by some of the local boutiques and talked shop with the owners, perused the racks to see if anything caught our interest, and in general I got schooled on some of the finer details of men's clothing, such as a bit about fabrication and British spread collars. It was nice to just be able to have a decent conversation about style that wasn't online for once.
With that, each time I put together an outfit I feel is pretty on point, I've started to document it via the uber-narcissistic "WAYWT? (What Are You Wearing Today?)" photo. Those who frequent clothing forums are familiar with the concept: you take a photo of your outfit and post it on the forum and have your fit critiqued by a bunch of strangers. Except for styleforum, because I know a decent amount of those folks since a lot of them tend to be from the D.C. area.
