pretty eventful weekend; woke up yesterday to find that miguel and i had converging plans for brunch at
marvin, that fairly new restaurant on 14th street named after marvin gaye, who was apparently born in shaw. i opted for chicken and waffles, and they were amazing, even if they had brussel sprouts hiding underneath. it was a really beautiful saturday, so i took my time getting anywhere, just enjoying a nice spring ride. i was deathly sick for a good portion of last week, which really sucks when you no longer live with your parents, but i'm very fortunate to have people that will visit me when i'm cranky and drugged up and do things like drop off chicken soup, or stay for a while because in two days they're leaving for europe, and when they come back they have to figure out the rest of their life.
things with my family seem to be getting better. a girl i knew once told me that sometimes factors such as time and distance make for healthier relationships. looking back, i probably should have taken heed to that advice much sooner. now that i'm working and not living at home, i find i do much better when surrounded by older filipino adults who bombard you with questions regarding your love life, your job, and the type of person you think you're becoming. you know, i'm saying that it's just a filipino thing, but i'm pretty sure this sort of thing is prevalent amongst other asian/pacific-american communities as well.
i'm not looking any older these days though. on monday i held open an elevator for trent lott, former minority whip for the u.s. house of representatives. i had just gotten to work, so i was decked out in my biking gear still, and dressed more casually than usual. we made small talk on the way up the elevator and he said something about it being nice weather to deliver packages. it wasn't until i got to my floor that i realized he'd mistook me for a bike courier.
