"Sam, about the kitten..."
Sam's eyes lit up. "How is she? Did Cassie name her?"
"Dusty. But Sam-"
"Dusty? Awww, that's adorable!"
"Sweetie-"
"I knew a cat was a good idea. I've almost always had one, at least until I gave up Schroedinger."
Shredded drapes, hairballs, terrified dog... "Sam! You're gone a lot, I work long hours, and Cassie has school. I really think that-"
Angelic little face, soft fur, big purr... She never had been able to stand up to Sam's pout. "-that we should get a second one. She'd be less lonely that way."
They'd make it work.
