Doctor Who?

I'm now back at work, but I spent the majority of my entertainment time while I was off watching Doctor Who. I had watched Season 6, but I was curious about the David Tennant seasons, and didn't really know much about the Christopher Eccleston Doctor ( Read more... )

I am, unsurprisingly, delighted at this news! Martha and Amy+Rory are my favourite companions. I loved Martha, I really did. There was something about Nine's stories and his prickliness that I really enjoyed too, and of Christopher Ecclestone is physically incapable of turning in a mediocre performance.

I'll be interested in what you make of season 5, which I like very much- particularly the episode Vincent and the Doctor, which will break your heart in the absolute best of ways, I promise you.

If you are looking for fics to read, a good place to start is A Teaspoon and An Open Mind.

I also strongly recommend Torchwood too, which is the spin-off with Captain Jack. Seasons 1&2 are patchy with some very good episodes, but season 3 is amazing. Amazing; it's political drama that just also happens to be set in the Doctor Who universe. And it has Peter Capaldi in it too- my only concern about him being the Twelfth Doctor is that he is just stunning in Children of Earth and I would hate for that to be undermined. I don't know if you are watching Who with Andy, but you might want to vet Torchwood before letting him see it, as it is skewed at an adult rather than a family audience, and so has a degree of swearing and sex in it.

I really liked Martha too--she's my favourite so far. David Tennant really owned the Doctor (though he had 4-ish seasons to work through the character), but Nine was an interesting study of the Doctor too. His time was too short as the Doctor for people to remember and rave, I think.

I knew about Torchwood (docTorwho)and who doesn't love John Barrowman! Andy watched some episodes of Doctor Who with me, but since I took him to see The Wolf of Wall Street, I can't imagine anything on Torchwood that would contain more debauchery than that!
