Only a few weeks had passed since her arrival in the Colors household and already she was homesick. She'd never had the opportunity to be on her own, but she had been more than willing to jump at the opportunity; especially when the offer came from someone she viewed like a brother. She would inevitably come to treat all the members of the Colors household like her family. But here, now, in these first few weeks, she felt more alone than she ever had.
Tonight, especially, her bed felt especially lonely. The house was quiet, silent, empty in the dead of night. Normally, sleep would eventually come to her, but not this night. Slipping from her bed, clinging her orange blanket close, she began the slow walk from her room. The floor was cold beneath her feet, the boards in the hallway creaked as she walked, and the door that she sought seemed so far away. There were no lights to illuminate the hallway at night, no comforting glow anywhere in sight, but the way was easy enough.
Slipping her fingers over the metal knob, Mikan pushed the door open, wasting no time in slipping inside. There was only one other person in the house, someone she wouldn't hesitate to call "brother" and looked up to. Without a word, she slipped into the bed, curling up beside him. Sleep came easily enough, peacefully enough; and her dreams were of family. Together with her big brother.
Autumn came with no end to the disappointing remarks from Midori~n. Green was leaving, orange, yellow, and red were appearing. She was completely fine with the colors, yes, but it was the disappearance of green that had her the most bummed. With a glance outside of the window, she muttered her disappointment as she prepared dinner. It was, at last, her turn to cook, and she was making the most of the opportunity by stir-frying up a meal of green vegetables. Peas, green beans, asparagus, spinach; if you could name it and it was green, she had it. With a wide grin on her face, she marveled at her delicious creation.
As the days passed, Midori~n eventually stopped commenting about the lack of green. There was only so much that could be done about it, but an opportunity to laugh was just around the corner: Winter. It wouldn't be long before the leaves were simply falling right off of the trees, covering everything in sight. No longer would the leaves shine red in the trees at dawn and dusk, instead they would crowd around the feet of all; and eventually, they would fade. The first leaves to return in spring would be green, and the color would rule until next autumn. The cycle had ended for the year, but a new one was right around the corner.
With a grin on her face, she glanced at the red man walking beside her. "I suppose autumn isn't all bad, you know; it's all about you losing."
