Doctor, Lawyer, Medicine Man

As if I haven't had an awful enough winter, I came down with the flu overnight on Monday/Tuesday. Quite a bit of bodily fluids were lost out of several orifices between 12:22 am & 7 am Tuesday. That's when the dry heaves stopped. I was so dehydrated that I had to start taking sips of cold water, which only managed to drain quickly away. The rest of the day was spent moaning over bodily aches & crying for my mommy. (Yeah, I still do that when I have the flu; never mind that I'm 46 & have been married for 25+ years!)

Dave brought home some 7-Up, and I had some of that and a couple of nibbles of dry toast for dinner.

The next morning I just felt sore from all the retching and diarrhea, but managed to have more toast (this time with a little butter) and it stayed down - and in - so off I went to the orthopaedic doctor for my cortisone shot.

Well, let's just say that that was no picnic, as the doctor managed to make me feel bloody awful about the whole Mark thing. He did show me letters that were sent out to the insurance company (both in October & December), but hey - they were on the computer, so there was every possibility that they could've been put there later. I did get copies of said letters before he gave me my shot. I can't say that the doctor did anything wrong, but I definitely felt uncomfortable getting a shot from a guy who I felt was pissed at me.

In any event, I went home armed with these letters, and called the insurance company again. Wonder of wonders, Jane managed to find a copy of the October letter and had to agree with me that the letter was for a brand new pre-certification, not an appeal on the old one. We hung up so that she could investigate further, and she called back a few hours later to let me know that she talked to the person who did the evaluations and requested that this be re-considered as a new pre-certification. Jane promised to push this through ASAP.

The rest of the day was spent with my knee up on a pillow, cringing with every twinge of pain. Dave ran out for Chinese food, as I was virtually starving by dinner time.

This morning, I woke up to find that my bed and pillows were soaked with sweat. I had a headache, so I took some Excedrin. Fully intending to go to work, I got my butt dressed and took the garbage out. I went on the computer to check the e-mail, and this is when I started to feel really sick again. The headache didn't go away, and the stomach started churning all over again. I am still trying to talk myself into not throwing up.

I guess that the Chinese food was a little premature. I don't think it was the shot, as I'd told the doctor that I just had the flu the day before. Who knows, though? Maybe he thought he'd take a little revenge on me by giving me a shot that could re-aggravate my flu symptoms.

At this point, I am seriously thinking of looking up a good orthopaedic doctor in Boston! (Or, if necessary, a very sleazy, ruthless lawyer!) Hell, even a Native American Medicine Man sounds good at this point!

AFTERTHOUGHT: Dave took me out last Sunday on a road trip through VT's Green Mountains so I could play with my new camera. I took a lot of landscape pictures, deleted a lot more, and decided that I might start taking pictures of dilapidated barns. There are so many in VT, and they have their own kind of beauty - and sad stories to tell. I would rather wait until I become more comfortable with the abilities & uses of my camera, not to mention educating myself more about photography in general. I still haven't figured out how to get my pictures uploaded to LJ, but I'm working on it. It would help if I weren't sick all the time!
