My Lord Asmodeus

Oct 25, 2005 08:39

It's been raining ever since last night - AGAIN!!! No wonder everyone seems down and droopy. Our first nor'easter of the season. Ah, fuck, it's gonna be a long winter.

Of course, I got a call from Dana last night. It was 80 degrees in Kentucky last week. (Told ya!) He got stung by another bee (last time, it was several, and he nearly died.) I had to take the opportunity to remind him that, down south, there's a longer bee season. God, I hope he's careful! At least he had his bee-sting kit with him, and was only 3 minutes from the hospital. Me, it'd take 30 minutes to get to a hospital from here, unless I go to that awful emergency place in Bellows Falls.

I finally had my first person e-mail me for membership at my Cthulhu community - thanks, Joe! You now have posting privileges, although I moderate them first (hopefully, I can correct any spelling errors!) This will be a great way for us to keep caught up on each other's games. Wicked cool!

Back in the 70's, I saw this horror movie featuring the demon Asmodeus, and I've been trying to re-tape it ever since - unfortunately, I could never remember the name of it. Well, I finally got it, quite by accident. It's called Spectre, and I taped it because the description said it had to do with, "druid weirdness" at an old country estate. Lo and behold, it's my movie! I even managed to find it on TCM, so there was no editing and no commercials! Actually, what with the partial nudity at the end, I couldn't believe that my parents even watched it way back then, much less allowed me to see it. Must've been heavily edited previously. I don't have near enough tapes for this Halloween season. You'd think that I already have plenty of movies, but I keep finding stuff I don't have yet, especially stuff with Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee (I so adore them!)

Watching horror movies is the only thing I can do, now that my distractions have fallen along the wayside. Oh well, nothing lasts forever. Now more than ever, I wish I had that genie bottle and those 3 wishes.....

Your Train of Thought:

Being creative and witty has to put a little stress on the 'ol noggin. But your thought process is clear and you are quick witted and smart. A fun upbeat and creative communicator. I bet you would be a lot of fun in a bar or at the office water cooler.

You would make an excellent teacher.

"DEEP" thoughts on thoughts

The entire "space" of thought, conscious, subconscious and unconscious, dissolves and reunites with the effortless flow of nature. The movement of thought becomes its meaning. Because that movement is part of the "world wave," every thought has the same meaning which is the ALL-meaning. Put in more tangible terms, the massage of the thought becomes its message.

Obviously, one will abide in such a state only for certain durations, at certain times, for certain purposes (such as experiencing oneness, purification, deep rest). That is because in this state, thought has become vibrating contour without content. But as human beings, we also need to be able to respond to content, i.e. to think clearly about specific issues, effectively solve problems, and skillfully consider situations. The ability to think empty thought and the ability to think clearly about issues mutually potentate each other. Appreciating this fact is one of the marks of spiritual maturity.

The dissolving of thought back into the effortless flow of nature could be described as the beginning of a complete experience of ordinary mind.

Despite the countless number of thought-moments which occur in the life span of a human being, there are altogether only one hundred and twenty-one different states of consciousness, each accompanied by its own specific attributes and functions. Some of these are active, in that they produce a result either skillful or unskillful; some are passive, or resultant, in that they are states of mind which are the product of earlier active mental tendencies, but which do not in themselves create further states of mind. So, if there has been an unskillful thought-moment rooted in aversion there will almost certainly be an unpleasant state of mind as a result of this some time in the future - this state of mind, however, will not in itself create further states of mind, though its occurrence may make it likely that active thought-moments rooted in aversion may arise in response to its unpleasantness. The other kinds of consciousness are functional, in that they operate outside the sphere of skillful and unskillful cause-and-effect. In everyday life, for instance, they are the thought-moments concerned with directing attention to the five senses or to mental states. While they are technically outside the world of cause-and-effect, they are extremely important in the tendencies of moment by moment consciousness, as it is these which direct the mind either inwards or outwards.

I certainly do make an excellent teacher; now, if only some employer would discover that too!

True Morality Test

Riding a Moral Fence
You are 59% truly moral. Really.

This puts you in a precarious position- which way to go? Should we give up trying to be so nice all of the time, or work harder at making decisions based on how we would like to be treated? Well, either way, have fun up there - you're not inherently bad or good, just looking out for #1 like most of us, but at least you have some kind of moral quality.

Those who overuse you can kiss your . . . you know. You need to learn to hold your head high and glory in your solitude. You really do have excellent, scholarly tastes. You must never forget that your friend, the period, will be there to support you at the end of every sentence where you truly belong, and, if what is left out is as important as what is said, why, then you are as vital as the alphabet!
